Declan O'Rourke on Tour
Declan O'Rourke is getting a lot of press and it seems
deservedly so. Here is what JigTime wrote about him a few months back;
"Eddi Reader Recommends
I have always been a fan of Eddi Reader, even back when
she was the voice of Fairground Attraction there was more than a hint
that she had a lot more to her than a couple of catchy hit singles. Her
solo career has shown her to be a mature and imaginative performer, both
in the studio and on stage. Mirmama is still there as one of my favorite
albums of all time.
So when Eddi recommended on her website that we should all check out
a young Irish singer/songwriter called Declan O'Rourke I thought I better
heed her advice.
Eddi has the advantage of having heard Declan play his songs live to
her while we have to make do with a couple of short MP3 snippets on his
website but even from these Declan sounds like someone to keep an eye
on in coming years. The MP3s of Christmas Wine, We didn't mean to go
to Sea and As a Bird are beautifully melodic and melancholic and I cant
wait to hear the full versions on an as yet to be released debut album.
Eddi Reader isn't the only well known musician who has
seen something special in Declan. His home town of Dublin is buzzing
with chat about this new young talent and his admirers include another
great songwriter Paul Brady. "
Since that time Declan has being going from strength
to strength and now Irish fans will get a chance to taste this sweet
music as Damien is on the road. The dates are a s follows;
May 24th The Roisin Dubh, Galway
May 27th Whelan's Dublin
May 29th The Lobby Cork
June 10th MacCarthy's Dingle
June 11th Tig ui Cathain Ballyferriter
June 13th De Barras Clonakilty
If you are in the vicinity of any of these venues I
would make the effort to hear Declan before he is too big an act to see
in such intimate settings.
