So I enjoyed this working from home business so much I decided to make it permanent. Oh it was fun driving the 20 miles every day to Sandy Springs to troubleshoot the systems at Radio Sandy Springs. However I found that troubleshooting was all I was doing. Nothing creative seemed to be coming from that daily grind. So 3 to 4 hours of my day was spent sitting in traffic going to and from the station but I was feeling like my creative side was being wasted while I was there. So my car breaking down was something of a blessing. It showed me I could set up a makeshift office space (the kitchen table) and discipline myself to sit there and work. In a matter of days I found myself getting more done than I had in months. It was frustrating not having the car but not having to fight traffic was a joy, Being able to concentrate on one thing at a time without being sidetracked into fiddling with a simple but annoying Windows issue was also a breath of fresh air.
Then I realized that I could actually answer my phone when I wanted to. And the phone did ring. Suddenly I found myself answering all sorts of questions about podcasting, new media, blogs, content creation and other issues facing creative people in the modern world. Look at me… I am a consultant. Now it was just a matter of turning everything I know into useful services for you. So if you could excuse me, I have some work to do. I have to make my office space more permanent and make sure the coffee machine is close by.
