Another week has gone by and summer has hit Georgia already. Temperatures are in the 80s so it is looking good for the months ahead and the festivals that take place all over the country. This weekend I managed to keep things local with a trip to Decatur, Georgia to hear some good free music on the square as part of the annual Earthday celebrations. It was all organized by local promoter T-Dawg who runs the Harvestfest shindig you have heard me mention on many occasions. The highlight again was Ralph Roddenberry whose infectious personality and good songs had the laid back crowd on their feet in the early summer sun. Next week I am finally going to give in to better judgment and attend one of those renaissance fairs that seem to thrive here in the south. I promise I won't try any jousting so I will be in good health for Merlefest in two weeks time. But enough of my inane banter. In this weeks music news; The Guitar of Paul Brady DVD and Video Not content with getting my fingers in a muddle with the Tony Rice DVD last week, this week I had a go at trying out how Paul Brady gets his unique guitar sound. On this DVD Paul dissects ten of his best loved songs and gives us a rare insight into what makes him tick. More Lunasa - The Kinnitty Sessions Not only did she recently review Irish band Lunasa in their recent appearances in New York, but our intrepid New York correspondent, Alice Farrell, clamed the coveted copy of the band's latest CD as well. After listing to it for several weeks, it was about time we got a review from her. More Andy Irvine on Tour He has been at the forefront of Irish music making for decades and shows no signs of slowing down. That's a good thing too as Andy Irvine has been part of making Irish music more accessible to millions around the world. He is also responsible for encouraging many young traditional musicians to look beyond their own front door for inspiration. In the coming weeks Andy is in Europe and then next month takes another trip to the States for some gigs. More Jim Lauderdale is Heading for the Hills In the last couple of years another singer/songwriter has joined my own personal list of favorites. Jim Lauderdale, quite simply knows how to write a good song. On his latest CD he gone for an acoustic sound and has drafted in the likes of Emmylou Harris and Tim O'Brien to help in the process. This is a fine example of real old time country done by a man who knows how to turn a phrase or two. More Coming Soon New albums from Christy Moore, Allison Moorer, The Gibson Brothers and more. Plus picture portfolios from recent festivals and shows as well as all the news about the best acoustic and roots music around. Also in the very near future our new look Newsletter.
