February 25th, 2004 Issue 19 Hello again everyone and welcome to another JigTime newsletter. We have been on a break for a couple of weeks as you may have noticed but we are back and ready for the road. For the next three weeks when you get your JigTime News you will see that it is being written in a hotel room somewhere in one of the 18 states myself and Irish traditional band Altan will be visiting as part of their U.S.A. spring tour 2004. More about that in a moment. In the meantime here is our regular look at ways you can use to stop me from filling your mailbox with musical mayhem on a weekly basis. Unhappy with your JigTime newsletter? Want to switch to a different roots and Celtic music provider? Well now you can with our handy little Unsubscribe function. (Unsubscribing is not recommended for those with a heart condition or who may be expecting) In this Issue Altan Tour Kicks Off Today Altan kicked off their travels today with a hop across to Copenhagen for a one off show in the Danish capital. Then tomorrow they will be winging their merry way across the Atlantic for a three week tour of the U.S.A. As you may already know I am hitting that long road with them to make sure their trip is filled with fun and is free of any drama. The tour kicks off in Covington GA on Friday morning early with two very special performances for some local music students aged between 6 and 12. What a lovely way to start any tour. Then that night it is the first of the full blown concerts. For a full list of dates see; http://www.jigtime.com/altantour2004.htm Also, myself and the band want to keep in touch with you during the tour so I have set up a tour log where every day, when time permits I will be writing a tour diary with comments and input from the various members of Altan. I will also try to get a new picture up every day. So head along to our tour log page where you can sign in and leave comments or just send us greetings while we travel those long roads. Let us know if you are coming to any of the shows or if you have just been to one. http://www.jigtime.com/blog Indigo Girls Added To Merlefest The Indigo Girls have been added to the already amazing lineup for this year's Merlefest. Lucinda Williams who was originally scheduled to appear had to pull out to take advantage of a tour in Australia so The Indigo Girls were drafted to take her place. For more on the Indigo Girls and a full list of the extremely varied list of musicians and bands who will make the pilgrimage to North Carolina this year just click below. http://www.jigtime.com/merle2004b.htm Homespun Aim To Teach Me A Thing Or Two Just when I thought I had packed the right amount of CDs and DVDs to keep Altan nice and quiet on the road, I get a nice of DVDs from the good folks at Homespun Tapes. Someone must have hinted that I need to improve my guitar skills as they sent me 4 wonderful tuition DVDs of 4 very different styles. From Paul Brady to Tiny Rice, from Celtic to Country by the time I get through these I should be playing Carnegie Hall. (That's if I practice they say) Over the coming weeks I will be trying out these DVDs to see if they do indeed improve my questionable ability. In the meantime have a look at what else Homespun has to offer. http://www.jigtime.com/homespun.htm Little Rock. a Celtic Heartland? You don't think of Little Rock, Arkansas as a place with a thriving Celtic community but folks like the effervescent man of medicine and music, Mark Pippinger is on an endless mission to change all that. He and the Arkansas Celtic Music Society just released their plans for spring and I have to say it is looking good. For a full list of their up and coming concerts click below http://www.jigtime.com/littlerock.htm Reminder-Music of Ireland in Atlanta JigTime is glad to be part of the Music of Ireland concert which will be one of the first of many shows all over the country in the lead up to St Patrick's Day. The event will feature the cream of Atlanta's traditional Irish players including Katherine Irwin Thomas, Mike Simpson, Lisa Cutliffe and members of the Bordercollies among others. JigTime will have a full preview in the coming weeks but for now check out their website at http://www.irishinmarch.com That is it for this week. I hope there was something there for you. Next week we will hopefully have a working blog to test ahead of the Altan tour so I will need you as my guinea pigs.
