I am not sure if I am ready. Too much to do, but a whole load of good music to listen while I am doing it. It has been a busy week musically with lots of good CDs to listen to and news to bring you from all over this fair globe. This week's news has a few personal favorites of mine thrown in which is always nice. So settle in for some good reading and brush up on your knowledge of the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, the USA and pretty much anywhere there is good music to be heard. I wanted to send personal best wishes to Scotty Moore and his family. Scotty is one of the most accomplished and important players in music history having been Elvis Presley's guitarist for many years, a highly sought after session musician and studio engineer and by all accounts an all round good guy. He is in hospital this week with a subdural hematoma. He is recovering from surgery right now and the doctors say with therapy he can return to his good old normal self. We wish him well. For daily updates in his recovery or just to read a fascinating timeline of this great man's career go to his website at http://www.scottymoore.net I would like to welcome some newcomers to the newsletter this week and especially the lovely folk who run a very nice Website called Irish Culture and Customs. Give them a visit if you get a chance. They are at; http://www.irishcultureandcustoms.com Again, for any of you who have found yourselves tired of this endless nonsense just send a mail to info at jigtime.com and say "John, take the rest of the year off and go play with the traffic" or just click on this link to unsubscribe. Unsubscribe (This is a real unsubscribe unlike many and you will not be bothered with endless offers of stuff to enlarge things that really should not be tampered with) News this week: Steve Earle Contest - 2 Weeks Left Eamonn Coyne - a very pleasant Plucker Darrell Scott - On the road No River City - Their North Dakota The Grammies are coming Rua - Into the Red zone New Irish Cultural Committee and much much more In this Issue Steve Earle Contest Update Only 2 weeks left in our Steve Earle contest so for those of you who have not gotten off your nether ends, now is the time. If you are new to JigTime and the newsletter then quite simply Artemis Records are giving us some great prizes to give away to celebrate the release of the Just an American Boy documentary which is coming out all over the USA right now. So for all the details go to; http://www.jigtime.com/steveearle/steveearlecomp.htm Darrell Scott on the road I bet even if you haven't heard of Darrell Scott you have at least hummed along to one or more of his songs. He is one of the best and fast becoming one of the most successful songwriters in Country music. Add to that a great talent as a performer and you have a man who is more than a conveyor belt writer on music row. Next month he arrives for a show in Atlanta and JigTime will be there at the front of the line. http://www.jigtime.com/darrellscott.htm Eamonn Coyne - Dublin to Edinburgh via the rest of the world. Eamonn Coyne plays the tenor banjo and he doesn't mind who knows. He is one of the finest exponents of the instrument anywhere and he shows it off in his latest album on Compass Records. He is also now a regular member of Salsa Celtica who we featured on JigTime just a few weeks back. So it's a busy time with the Scots baying for Salsa this Hogmanay. http://www.jigtime.com/eamonncoyne.htm Irish Government announce new Culture Board The Irish government has announced a new board to oversee our cultural heritage. With Irish music and culture now very popular and very cool all over the world the powers that be seem to have seen the value in promotion and preservation of our of our treasured assets. http://www.jigtime.com/tradarts.htm Not much Celtic but plenty of good music among Grammy nominees The Nominees have been announced for the next Grammy awards and while this year there are few nominations the Celtic music world there is plenty to smile about in the world of Bluegrass and roots music. The awards will be handed out on February 8th 2004 in L.A. and even though JigTime hasn't been invited yet we will bring you the results when they are announced. For some of the nominations that matter to us click the link below http://www.jigtime.com/grammies.htm No River City - A raw force to be reckoned with Drew de Man is another one of those songwriters who can take you on a journey through thick and thin, through tears and laughter and all around the hills, valleys and plains of the US and bring you back home tired, emotional but better for the experience of hearing his songs. He and his musical partner Teri make up No River City, a band on the verge of something big. http://www.jigtime.com/norivercity.htm Rua - Redheads and good music - It's my Christmas wish list I am not going to disguise the fact that as a man the cover of the Rua CD appealed to my shallow side. That caused a little panic in case the music was so bad I couldn't write about it. Thankfully that was not the case and Rua turn out to be an excellent duo making music to soothe us savage beasts. http://www.jigtime.com/rua.htm Support JigTime Don't forget you can support JigTime in many ways You can make a donation though our Paypal links dotted all over the site.
