From Jigtime at jigtime.com Wed Nov 5 00:51:51 2003 From: Jigtime at jigtime.com (Jigtime at jigtime.com) Date: Wed, 5 Nov 2003 00:51:51 -0500 Subject: [Jigtime] JigTime News-Issue 5 Message-ID: <003b01c3a360$eec32460$6400a8c0@computername> JigTime News November 5th 2003 Issue 6 Well hello again. Aren't you looking well today?. And look at me, in your mailbox again with more news of what's what in the world of twangy fiddley diddley stuff. In this day and age we all know how important it is to be able to tell you fiddley from your diddley. So here we are all ready to help with that sort of pressing issue. It is Guy Fawkes Day in merry England so I wish all my pals back there all the best celebrating the man who failed to blow up the Houses of Parliament back in the 1600s. Still it is a good excuse to set off some fireworks and burn stuff. Halloween has come and gone and in the USA it's the run up to Thanksgiving, one of my favorite holidays since I moved here from Ireland some 3 years ago. But none of this inane rambling will further your knowledge of the music we all love. So onward to the tunes that make us tick. Again for any of you who have found yourselves jaded by the newsletter just send a mail to info at jigtime.com and say "John, stop that, you are a few fiddles short of a good session" In this Issue Steve Earle Competition In the next few weeks in conjunction with Artemis Records we will be running a competition to win some cool Steve Earle goodies. The competition is to celebrate the theater release of the documentary Just an American Boy, Full details will be sent to people on the mailing list first and then we will launch it on JigTime in the next week Four Men and a Dog profiled It was almost painful to write this profile of a band whose members I have known far too well for at least 20 years. The pain of course was the reminder of the groggy heads we all had after late nights in places like McGrory's Hotel in Culdaff where we would sit until the sun came up playing tunes and songs and giving all the money we had earned back to the barman. Those heady days may be gone but the band and the music lives on. http://www.jigtime.com/fourmenprofile.htm O'Connor's Album hits the Mark We already mentioned a few weeks back that Mark O'Connor was about to release a new album. I finally got a copy in the mail and can report that it is well up to Mark's ridiculously high standards. http://www.jigtime.com/markocalbum.htm El McMeen - a guitar album to cherish Another great album available right now is by New Jersey based guitarist El McMeen. This isn't all traditional Irish though, as I found out this week. Dancing the Strings - Celtic to Contemporary is the album and you can find out all about it right here http://www.jigtime.com/elmcmeen.htm Chris Austin Songwriting Contest Merlefest may seem like it's a long way away but if you are a songwriter now is the time to think about getting your song in for this great competition. http://www.jigtime.com/chrisaustin.htm New For some reason people want to know what I am listening to as I potter around the house during the day. Well now you never need to fret again that I am getting my recommended daily intake of music vitamins. I will also be posting what you are listening to as well. Just let me know in our forums and I will publish it in the main JigTime site. Coming up soon on JigTime The Bell Witch is a new movie about some spooky goings on in Tennessee. The great mystery though seems to be when it will be out. There are a few reports of it being sighted by various people but so far no concrete proof that the movie really exists. JigTime will be heading into the woods in the coming days to uncover the mystery of the disappearing movie. Or maybe I will just email someone and ask them. If anyone spots this phenomenon please don't approach it as it may be a little eerie. Oh and the reason it's on JigTime is because not only is the movie set in my beloved Appalachians but the soundtrack is full of great mountain music and is looking like a winner too. That's it for now folks Don't forget if you know of anything that you think JigTime should know then email me at info at jigtime.com We need your input to make this site work so don't be shy and get in touch. Also if you can please sign our guestbook and if you get time to join in a chat on one of our forums then we can find even more ways to make JigTime just what you want it to be.
