Across The Pond is my radio show that celebrates the music is Ireland, England, Scotland, Galicia, Brittany, Wales and of course the great rich tapestry of music in America. And on show 51 I try not to let that tradition down. I have music from Solas, Newfound Road, Sarah Watkins, Hal Ketchum and many more.
In coming weeks I will have even more great music and occasional guests from Casey Driessen to Maura o'Connell. So join me on ICRFM every Thursday with a repeat on Sunday or just hang out here on JigTime and wait for the archive and podcast of the show. And coming up on show 52, new music from Tom Byrne, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Guy Clark and Lumiere. Check out the Across The Pond Fan Page on Facebook and follow me on Twitter. Until next week take care and safe travelling.

Well it finally arrived. Show number 50 went on on ICRFM on Thursday and is now ready for you to listen to as an archive and podcast here on JigTime. As promised, on today's show I am playing music only from Facebook friends. Mind you when I started to pick music for the show I realized I had far too many musician friends on Facebook and may have to make this a regular show. So sit back and enjoy music from some very cool people I have known and worked with down through the years including, The Duhks, Ciaran Tourish, Maura O'Connell, Alison Brown and many more.
And tune in next week for more great music from both sides of the great big sea and beyond. If you have any requests or know of artists I may want to play on the show please send me links to the artist and I will try to fit them in.

It was a sad weekend as many of us bade farewell to Senator Edward Kennedy. He will be missed my so many. It was a beautiful send off though. I wrote a short piece for Facebook on the day after I heard the news about my own personal feelings about this giant of a man. Check it out here . It was truly one of the great honours of my life to be in the same room with a man who changed the world for the better. The Podcast of the show is up a little late this week but if you managed to catch the show on ICR I hope you enjoyed the music. For those of you who wait for the archive stream on JigTime or the podcast, then I think you are in for a treat. Music on the show from Colin Hay, Cara Dillon, Bela Fleck and more.
Don't forget next week is Show number 50. So join me as I celebrate the music of my Facebook friends. So you can expect music from Ciaran Tourish, John Doyle, Pauline Scanlon, Sharon Shannon and many more. So do tune in later this week to ICRFM.ie

New Loudon Wainwright III CD Out Now |

Loudon Wainwright III, together with producer Dick Connette, has created one of the most ambitious projects of his career with the 2 CD set High Wide & Handsome - a grand gathering of songs, both old and original, revisiting the life, times and recorded legacy of legendary singer and banjo picker Charlie Poole (1892-1931). The music ranges from old-timey to dixieland, from parlor songs to acapella gospel, a compendium of the strains that have created and continue to create American popular music. Greil Marcus wrote in his notes for the project, "Poole might have been waiting all these years for someone to talk back to him so completely in his own language; Wainwright might have been waiting since he first heard Charlie Poole to get up the nerve to do it." Guests on the album include Martha Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright, Sloan Wainwright, Lucy Wainwright Roche, the Roches, and Chris Thile.
I met up with Loudon some months back at a gig in Atlanta where he played some of the songs from the CD. I will certainly be playing some tracks from the new CD on the show and hopefully get a chance to talk to Loudon about the project very soon. |
